Honest Water Co complete system: black cylinder softener tank, brine tank, and white reverse-osmosis drinking unit with stainless faucet

Inside the system

Most companies won’t tell you what’s in the tank. We will.

Every softener on the market looks roughly the same from the outside. The difference is what’s loaded inside. Here are the 78 pounds of media doing the work in your Honest Water Co tank, layer by layer.

  1. Layer 01 · Top

    14 lbs NSF-certified polishing gravel

Catches sediment before water reaches the softening resin below, protecting the active layer and extending its life.

  2. Layer 03 · Bottom

14 lbs NSF-certified granular activated carbon

Polishes the water on the way out. Removes chlorine, pesticides, odors, and the taste that makes Texas tap water unpleasant.

  1. Layer 02 · Middle

50 lbs food-grade NSF-certified softening resin, sourced in the USA

The active layer. This is where hardness gets pulled out of your water. The quantity and the source are both things every other installer refuses to put in writing.

A note from McKinney

Anthony, on a McKinney install

We built this because our own water was awful.

When my family moved to North Texas, the water ruined two dishwashers, left a film on every glass, and turned a new water heater into a science experiment. I spent a weekend getting quotes from the local guys. Every single one of them wanted me on a call before they’d give me a number.

In 2021 we started Honest Water Co because that felt backwards. If the system is good and the install is honest, the price shouldn’t need a sales pitch. So the price is on the page. The specs are on the page. The warranty is on the page.

That’s what “honestly” means around here. Nothing fancier than that. If you call us, you’ll get a real person, a real timeline, and the same number you see above. Thanks for looking us over.

Water, by the numbers

North Texas water is hard. The system is how you fix it.

Hardness is measured in grains per gallon. The national reference point for “soft” water is under 1 gpg. Most taps across Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and Denton counties sit well above that.

Hardness is the calcium and magnesium that scale your water heater, dry out your skin, and leave that white film on every glass. The softener pulls those minerals out and brings the water back down where it should have been all along.

Hardness ranges are approximate and vary by utility. The EPA and USGS soft-water threshold is a well-documented national reference.

100+ five-star Google reviews

People who bought the system wrote these.

We did not cherry-pick carefully. These are the beats we hear again and again: the price on the page was the price paid, the install was quiet, the water actually changed.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars.

I had three water-softener quotes over the years, every one with a different number and a two-hour sales pitch. Honest Water Co put a price on the page, showed me exactly what was in the tank, and stuck to it. The install crew left the garage cleaner than they found it.

The honest FAQ

8 questions · All visible · No hidden pages

What’s actually included in the $2,759?
The whole-home softener with its 78 pounds of media, the under-counter reverse-osmosis drinking system, professional installation by our crew, the lifetime warranty, and haul-away of your old softener if you have one. No line items added later.
What if I sell my house?
The system stays with the home. The warranty is on the system, so it transfers to the new owner when you sell. Most folks leave it as a selling point.
How long does installation take?
Most installs are a half-day job for our crew, done in one visit. Older plumbing or a tricky run to the main line can add time. We’ll tell you before we start, not after.
What maintenance does the system need?
Keep the brine tank topped up with softener salt and change the RO filters on schedule. That’s it. We send a free annual service reminder so the dates don’t sneak up on you.
Is the water pressure affected?
The softener is sized for whole-home flow, so day to day you shouldn’t notice a difference at the tap. If your home has an unusual setup, our crew will check pressure before and after the install.
What does “lifetime warranty” actually cover?
The softener tank, the control head, and the RO drinking unit are covered for as long as the system is installed in your home. Consumables like softener salt and RO filter cartridges are not, because they’re meant to be replaced.
Do I have to be home for installation?
Someone eighteen or older needs to be on site to let the crew in and sign off at the end. You don’t need to hover. Most customers get on with their day while we work.
What if I rent my home?
You’ll need written permission from your landlord or the property owner, since the system ties into the main water supply. If they sign off, we’re happy to install. If you’d rather, we can talk to the owner directly.
